Color of the Year

A brief but creative project that challenges 6th grade students to invent, name, and reflect upon their own Color of the Year. This lesson is grounded in Pantone’s annual selection of a color that represents the year to come. This context helps students to understand the value of color coding in the field of design and the emotional connotations behind a hue. Students used a mixture of red, yellow, blue, black, and white paint to develop their own unique color. Reflecting on their results, they gave their Color of the Year a creative name to represent its mood.
